Scholarships for new students

The Training and Student Affairs Department at Hue University emphasizes that as part of its development trend, each higher education institution must continuously improve the quality of education and establish strong connections with businesses to enhance job opportunities for students. Alongside this, there should be appropriate policies to provide substantial support for students, such as tuition fee waivers and especially entrance scholarships.

Dr. Le Van Tuong Lan, Acting Head of the Training and Student Affairs Department at Hue University, stated that the scholarship and reward policies for new students at Hue University are clearly outlined in the admission plans of educational units as well as Hue University’s overall admission plan. These policies are publicly disclosed early to ensure that students are well-informed. Early and transparent disclosure is also a strategy to attract students.

"For example, at the University of Law, scholarships are awarded to students who rank first and second in the university, as well as those with high scores in the 2024 high school graduation exams. There are also scholarships for students admitted through direct recruitment or the university's specific admission methods. The scholarship amounts are quite considerable, such as a 30 million VND scholarship for the university's new entrants with highest score in the exam. Additionally, students who score 27 points or higher in the 2024 high school graduation exams will be granted a scholarship equivalent to the tuition fees for their third and fourth years, estimated at 30 million VND," shared Dr. Le Van Tuong Lan.

Similarly, at the University of Economics, students admitted with a high school graduation score of 25 points or higher will receive scholarships. There are also talent scholarships for students accepted into talent programs, advanced programs, and programs with international elements. At the University of Sciences, numerous scholarships are available for students who rank first in their fields, as well as for those with high school graduation scores ranging from 23 to 25 points and 25 points or higher. The University of Agriculture and Forestry will also award scholarships to students who rank first in their fields and first in the university.

Representatives from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology - Hue University, noted that for the 2024 admissions, the faculty has partnered with many organizations and companies to offer various scholarships for students registering in the faculty. Notably, tuition fee support scholarships worth up to 50 million VND per year are available from major corporations and businesses such as Samsung Group, Intrase Company, Silica Group, 3S International Company, Fsoft Company, LogiGear, Thua Thien Hue Construction and Installation Company, and Hoa Binh Group. Additionally, 20 scholarships worth 4 million VND each will be offered for specialized courses in Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, Python programming, and data mining from organizations such as VietAI, HUET, and HueAI. There will also be 20 scholarships for programming and software development courses from Megrabbit (USA) and 3S International Company, valued at 3 million VND each.

Encouraging students with excellence academic results

In addition to scholarships for new students, the universities and departments within Hue University allocate scholarships from tuition revenue to encourage academic excellence. Each university also has policies to support students in difficult circumstances. Hue University continues to maintain scholarships from annual funds such as Nguyen Truong To, Phuc’s Fond, Keidanren & JCC,etc.

The University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University annually awards merit-based scholarships to approximately 900 students with good or higher academic results and conduct performance, with a total budget of over 12 billion VND. The scholarship fund is allocated at a minimum of 8% of the tuition revenue. Students receiving merit-based scholarships with good academic performance will be granted full tuition fees; for very good performance, they will receive 125% of the good performance amount, and for excellent performance, students will get 150% of the good performance amount.

According to heads of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the university frequently seeks scholarship funding from both domestic and international organizations and individuals to support approximately 500 students with good academic performance and training points, as well as students in difficult financial situations. The total scholarship fund from external sources is about 5 billion VND per academic year. Each scholarship ranges from 10 to 20 million VND, and some scholarships can cover the entire cost of study, and living expenses, and are maintained throughout the entire course.

"Studying in the fields of medicine and pharmacy, students do not have much time to work part-time to support themselves. However, if they strive to achieve scholarships, it is also a way to ease their living and study expenses," shared Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Bui Bao, Vice-Rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

In addition to scholarship policies, Hue University has recently implemented tuition fee waivers and reductions for students in several fields, such as teacher training programs, philosophy at the University of Sciences, political economy at the University of Economics, and a 50% tuition fee reduction for Russian language students at the University of Foreign Languages.

Dr. Le Van Tuong Lan believes that entrance scholarships are just the beginning of the student's journey. Throughout the 4 to 6 years of study, depending on the fields of their study, students need to strive to maintain their academic achievements. Not only should they aim to receive scholarships, but good academic performance with a high-classification degree will greatly facilitate their job search after graduation. Furthermore, students will have opportunities to continue their studies and work in international environments through Hue University’s current cooperation policies, as students with strong academic records are always prioritized.
