On the afternoon of October 17, the AAF announced that it had just rescued and safely transported a bear, owned by a household in Kinh Mon Town (Hai Duong Province), to the Vietnam Bear Rescue Center II at Bach Ma National Park.
This bear is voluntarily transferred by the household, and is determined to be the last captive bear in Hai Duong Province. Immediately after receiving the voluntary transfer application, the Hai Duong Forest Protection Department accompanied and supported all handover procedures, closely coordinated with the AAF in the bear rescue work, and completed legal procedures to bring the bear to the Vietnam Bear Rescue Center II at Bach Ma National Park.
According to the household, the bear had been cared for since about 2003 for commercial purposes in a private farm model including 4 bears. The bear was fitted with a test chip and periodically checked by officers of the Hai Duong Forest Protection Department in accordance with the current regulations. Up to now, the bear have lived in captivity for more than 20 years, although its age in the wild is from 30 to 35 years old.
The AAF performed anesthetic rescue and on-site clinical health examination for the bear. Before the rescue day, the AAF had guided the household on the necessary care conditions, so that the bear would respond to anesthesia, providing the most safety for the bear.
Previously, in early October, the Vietnam Bear Rescue Center II at Bach Ma National Park had received the first two bears, rescued in Hanoi.
