Ho Ngoc Vinh Phat is named

At the beginning of this historic April, Mr. Nguyen Phu Tho, Principal of Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted, announced the good news that Ho Ngoc Vinh Phat, a 12th grade student specializing in Informatics had overcome "heavyweight" competitors from 63 provinces and cities to officially join Vietnamese team entering the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) 2021. This is a world-class competition for talented high school students in the field of informatics around the world. Vinh Phat has participated in this competition, held in Indonesia from May 22.

Ho Ngoc Vinh Phat is an excellent student of Quoc Hoc as he has won many high prizes, including the gold medal in Informatics at the Olympiad in the Coastal region in the academic year of 2017-2018, and the first prize in the National Excellent Student Competition in the academic year of 2020-2021, etc. Especially, Vinh Phat has the courage and confidence to participate in national and regional competitions.

Having the love for informatics from childhood, as Vinh Phat grows up, he increasingly desires to learn more about informatics and how to set up and run computing programs. That is the motivation for him to nurture the passion for his specialized subject.

When practicing and preparing for the competitions, Ho Ngoc Vinh Phat had received great encouragement and support from his family and friends. His parents don't put too much emphasis on achievements. Therefore, when Vinh Phat entered the competitions, he felt relaxed to complete in them to the fullest.

After classes, Phat often practices English. For him, English is very necessary for the process of self-studying and reading materials. After stressful classes, Vinh Phat often relaxes by playing games and playing soccer with his classmates.

In the National Excellent Student Competition in the academic year of 2020-2021, the whole province gained 61 prizes; in which, 4 first prizes belonged to the students of Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted. Along with Phan Tai Tinh Tri (Chemistry), Le Dinh Xuan Mai (Biology), and Dang Thu Thao (English), Ho Ngoc Vinh Phat was one of the four students winning the first prize; and he was the only face representing Thua Thien Hue students to be selected to the contest aiming to choose teams for the regional and international Olympiad in 2021.

Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted once had Nguyen Hy Hoai Lam, winning bronze medal (in 2016) and silver medal (in 2017) in the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO).

Entering the top 10 nationwide

Analyzing data results from the National Excellent Student Competition in a six-year period (2016-2021), the provincial student delegations have always been in the leading group nationwide. The total number of Thua Thien Hue students winning prizes in the National Excellent Student Competition in the past six years was 309, including 14 first prizes, 86 second prizes, 100 third prizes, and 109 consolation prizes. The ratio of winners to the total number of contestants reached 67.6 percent, higher than the average of other localities and units across the country (49.9 percent).

In 2016, Thua Thien Hue ranked 23rd nationwide; then in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 the province ranked 15th, 19th, 14th, and 15th, respectively. In particular, in the 2021 competition, Thua Thien Hue rose to the 9th nationwide. This is also the first time that Thua Thien Hue province has entered the top 10 nationwide in the National Excellent Student Competitions so far. It is the condition, and the groundwork for Thua Thien Hue to have many students participating in international excellent student competitions.

The story of the "golden boy" Ho Ngoc Vinh Phat this May is the continuation of the beautiful dream of the well-known school of Quoc Hoc and the studious land of the Ancient Capital. Half a century ago, Hue was proud to have Le Ba Khanh Trinh and his friends, who honored Quoc Hoc and the Ancient Capital land as bringing home the first ever medals from international excellent student competitions.

That tradition has been inspired in recent years as Quoc Hoc and Hue students have continued to be named in international competitions. It is followed with the names of Dinh Anh Minh, Truong Dong Hung, and most recently Ho Viet Duc with the gold medal in the International Biology Olympiad in 2020.

Looking backward, at the commendation ceremony of Ho Viet Duc for winning the Gold Medal of the International Biology Olympiad in 2020, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Phan Ngoc Tho affirmed: "This achievement is not only for the student, family, school, but it is also very meaningful to the education sector of the province; prolonging the golden history page in the history of construction and development of Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted".

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee hoped that teachers and students of the school would keep on promoting the achieved results, and constantly striving for gaining better achievements, contributing to affirming "Thua Thien Hue is a multi-disciplinary, multi-sector, and high-quality educational hub of the whole nation".

I think it is also a Hue dream, which is close and full of aspiration.
