Huyen Khong Son Thuong Pagoda - A watercolor painting

TTH.VN - Along with hundreds of large and small pagodas in the land of Hue Ancient Capital, Huyen Khong Son Thuong Pagoda (also known as Huyen Khong 2) is a well-known pagoda in Hue.

The pagoda, belonging to the Nam Tong sect (Hìnayàna), was built in 1989. It is about more than ten kilometers west of Hue City, and located in Dong Cham Village, Huong Ho Ward, Huong Tra Town.

After about 15 minutes going along the winding road leading to the middle of the mountain, Huyen Khong Son Thuong Pagoda will emerge in the middle of the vast pine forest. The space there is so quiet, with the magical landscape as beautiful as a watercolor painting.

The pagoda space includes the main hall with a rustic architectural style, based on the architecture of Hue's Ruong houses. Its building materials are mainly wood, and fish scale tiles, imprinting the soul of Hue and the soul of Vietnam.

Besides the main hall, the pagoda also has the art space, including the Stone Grass Garden; and the Khong Son Thien Uyen… This is a unique architectural cluster with works of art such as the grass and stone installations, the poems in calligraphy engraved on tree trunks, logs, and stone slabs, etc. Every scene is in harmony with the nature, giving the visitors a sense of peace.

Hue News would like to introduce a series of photos of the photographer Nguyen Khoa Huy about this famous pagoda.

Listening to the Gardens of Hue

“I study garden houses as a connection between Vietnamese art and culture and a deep connection with the land and spirit of Hue. Hidden cultural features still thrive in the values and identity of Hue today,” said Professor and Landscape Architect Kimberlee Stryker (University of California, Berkeley) in her “Listening to the Gardens of Hue, Vietnam” 25 years ago.
