Young artist Tran Ngoc Sy has offered classes of experimental painting for Hue young people with painting activities across places from Thuan An and Hai Duong beaches, Cha mangroves, Vong Canh hill, to the Citadel and ancient pagodas.

I was invited to take a ‘Green Hue’ sightseeing trip. Standing on Gia Vien bridge and look northwards on a sunny day, I saw River Huong was supported with different colors: yellow of the Golden Shower tree, scarlet of the Flamboyant, velvet of the crape-myrtle, blue of the sky and green of water. Hue has entered the season of mist. It is when walking on the Truong Tien bridge, one suddenly recognizes the city is wrapped in soft floating mist. One stands on the bridge, looking at the river full of milky mist, hearing the sounds of fishermen paddling. Mist lingers among trees and grass in the verdant parks. It is as if the whole city were slowing down and it looks so beautiful like a painting.

In 2015, Dang Tien, a critic, wrote me that he had just found a painting of the Perfume river by Bauchaud, a French artist, in 1902. The beautiful painting vividly depicted women from the market waiting to get on the boat by the Perfume river. The painting later appeared on the cover of the special issue of the Song Huong Magazine (Perfume River Magazine) in March 2015.

Falling in love with the peaceful and rustic look of the countryside, Phan Vu Tuan, a young painter, always spends his time traveling on countryside roads to paint. The familiar scenery in his watercolors reveals his thoughtful love for his homeland.
