Using electric cars for public service within Hue City
“Say NO to plastic bags”
At the souvenir shop at Huu Vu House (the Citadel), after buying a book entitled "Khiem Tomb and Emperor Tu Duc", a tourist was handed a book in a paper bag printed with a logo and the message "Hue Heritage: Say no to plastic bags”. That is the image which is gradually becoming familiar at souvenir shops at the tourist attractions of Hue Heritage.
According to Ms. Nguyen Hoang Thai Uyen, the owner of the souvenir shop at Huu Vu House, when using this paper bag instead of plastic bag, the visitors get excited and feel thankful. This bag is not only environment-friendly but also very nice.
With the mission of protecting the environment and contributing to promoting the image of Hue cultural heritage much greener - cleaner - brighter, along with "Green Sunday" directly implemented by officials, employees and workers, Hue Monuments Conservation Center also put the "Say no to plastic bags" program into the Complex of Hue Monuments.
Accordingly, in terms of their own units, the center launched a movement to innovate an alternative material to replace the disposable plastic one in daily activities. Also, they will not use plastic bags and small-volume plastic bottles in conferences, meetings and daily activities.
In terms of businesses, from May 20, 2019, they will not use plastic bags to pack and store goods for the tourists. At the entrances of the tourist sights, paper bags with the message "Hue Heritage: Say no to plastic bags" are also prepared so that every visitor can replace their plastic bags with them.
Using paper bags for customers
To make a habit of not using plastic bags and gradually eliminate using them at The Complex of Hue Monuments, Hue Monuments Conservation Center will have mechanisms and policies to support a part of initial funding for businesses switching to using paper bags to pack and store goods for visitors.
Ms. Hoang Thi Huong, Deputy Director of Hue Monument Service Development Center said: “In the beginning, the center supports the businesses paper bag service so that they could have time to prepare for the change. As the price between paper bags and plastic bags is significantly different, we are looking for a better alternative.”
"Say no to gasoline engines"
Not only the movement for disposable plastic bags and bottles, in the coming time, especially in the area of the Citadel area, the "Say no to gasoline engine" project will also be implemented. Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Phan Ngoc Tho emphasized this issue in the meeting with Hue Monuments Conservation Center in mid-May.
Mr. Phan Ngoc Tho asked the Center to make plans for all types of vehicles operating by gasoline engines (except for the construction facilities) not to travel within the 36 hectare - wide area of the Inner Citadel. This not only contributes to creating an environment-friendly complex with no gas smoke, no plastic bags, no plastic bottles, but also is a way to show respect for the predecessors.
Electric cars are now widely used in the Inner Citadel, but mainly for exploiting the services and serving tourists. So far, hundreds of officials and employees of Hue Monuments Conservation Center working in the Inner Citadel are still asked to park their motorbikes in places that do not affect the tourism areas.
Therefore, to be able to say "No" to gasoline engines in the area of the Inner Citadel, Hue Monument Conservation Center is looking for a parking place outside the Inner Citadel for the employees.
“The employees of the Center agree to support and implement practical activities to make Thua Thien Hue much greener - cleaner – brighter, and always make Hue heritage area a friendly destination. Gasoline engines in the Inner Citadel are replaced by bicycles, electric cars, or even going on foot. Our problem now is to find a parking place outside the Inner Citadel and transfer employees to the workplaces inside in a reasonable way,” Mr. Mai Xuan Minh, Deputy Director of Hue Monument Conservation Center imposed the solution.
