Provincial leaders received a courtesy call from New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam

Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Binh expressed his happiness in welcoming Ambassador Beresford to Thua Thien Hue. He introduced the province's potential and advantages, providing an overview of its recent socio-economic developments and the progress towards making Thua Thien Hue a centrally-governed city.

Thua Thien Hue seeks to expand its friendly cooperative relations with New Zealand in various fields, enhancing collaboration in investment, trade, tourism, technology, and environmental sectors. The province encourages investments in mutually interested areas such as energy, infrastructure development, textiles, high-tech agriculture, and renewable energy. Furthermore, Thua Thien Hue aims to promote its strengths to New Zealand investors and facilitate exchanges between students and lecturers from New Zealand and the province.

Ambassador Caroline Beresford thanked the provincial leaders and departments for their warm reception during her first visit to Thua Thien Hue. She was impressed by the beauty of the ancient capital, the green city, the tourist city with its friendly and hospitable people, and the remarkable progress made in development while preserving historical and cultural values.

Ambassador Beresford expressed her desire to strengthen cooperation in areas where Thua Thien Hue excels, particularly in sustainable tourism development. She also emphasized the importance of educational cooperation and proposed that New Zealand universities expand their partnerships with universities in Hue through academic exchanges and research collaborations.

The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and New Zealand. Ambassador Beresford stated that she would act as a bridge for the cooperative relationship between the two sides, with many activities planned to take place in Hue to further elevate the long-standing friendly relations between New Zealand and Vietnam, and specifically with Thua Thien Hue province.
