Research to apply set of sustainable tourism criteria
TTH.VN - On the morning of November 28, the Swiss Sustainable Tourism Program (SSTP) in collaboration with the Department of Tourism held a seminar to introduce the set of sustainable tourism criteria in Thua Thien Hue province.

Nowadays, travel behavior is changing more and more. Especially with the impact of COVID-19, tourists are increasingly choosing healthcare tourism, destinations with good environment, destinations ensuring sustainability criteria, according to experts. Besides, sustainable tourism development, responsible exploitation of tourism resources, sustainable economic tourism development in the locality... are also orientations of tourism in Vietnam in general and Thua Thien Hue in particular.
However, besides the positive aspects, the current development of tourism also brings negative impacts on tourist destinations, tourism resources, people's lives, while competition of destinations is increasingly fierce… Thus, tourism development should prioritize sustainability as a top priority.
At the seminar, the Swiss Sustainable Tourism Program consulted on criteria for sustainable development in Thua Thien Hue, such as saving electricity and water; reducing garbage; caring about workers; reducing business operating costs; improving the quality of advanced services; protecting the environment; as well as strengthening the local economy, etc.
Through the seminar, the State management officials in tourism, tourism businesses and training institutions were supported to better understand about sustainable tourism development; the inevitability of environmentally sustainable and responsible tourism. Thereby, helping the ancient capital's tourism industry develop a set of criteria for sustainable tourism development, contributing to turning tourism into a spearhead economic sector, towards being the tourism center of the country and the region.
