On the afternoon of April 5th, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoai Phuong, Vice Director of Hue City Hospital confirmed that in the morning the doctors and nurses on call at the quarantine area of the Vocaitional Training College No. 10 had helped a pregnant woman who was in quarantine deliver a baby girl.

The woman named Phan Thi N. lived in Hue city, quarantined shortly after returning from Laos on the night of March 27 and was still in her quarantine time. According to Ms. N., during the previous examination, the doctors in Laos expected the woman to deliver her baby on April 20. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 disease, she and her family returned to Hue for safety.

During the time in the quarantine area, Ms. N. was monitored; and her health was checked regularly. She was without any symptoms of cough, fever, shortness of breath, or abdominal pain. Until about 3 am April 5th, the medical team in the quarantine area received news that the pregnant woman had abdominal pain, as there were signs of labor. Doctors and midwives got there in time to help her deliver her baby at her quarantine room. Ms. N gave birth to a girl weighing 2.9 kg healthily and safely in the bursting joy of many people.

Shortly thereafter, Ms. N. and her child were taken by ambulance to the medical quarantine area of Hue City Hospital to continue having monitoring, and medical examination. Accompanying Ms. N was her sister-in-law, who was also in quarantine time. At the quarantine area of Hue City Hospital, N. is put in a separate room, with regular visits and nutrition for postpartum mother.

"By this time, the health of the mother and her child is very good, we are still continuing to monitor and visit the mother and her baby girl," Dr. Phuong said.
