Assessing the status and build of a database on biological resources in Thua Thien Hue province

TTH.VN - That is the topic of the project undertaken by the University of Sciences, Hue University. It has just been checked and taken over by the Science and Technology Council on the afternoon of October 12th.

After 24 months of carrying out researching, the authors of the project have fully counted the list of composition of animal and plant species in Thua Thien Hue province; assessed the status of biological resources as well as rare, valuable and endemic species of animals and plants in the whole province and introduced groups of management and protection solutions.

The project has also developed a database on biological resources of the province, contributing to the increase of awareness, management capacity, planning, sustainable exploitation, querying, updating, supplementation and conservation the biological resources in Thua Thien Hue province by using WebGIS software.

Members of the Inspection Council appreciate the contribution of the project, especially the provision of information on the composition of animals, plants and mushrooms in the province. The result of the project helps the management agencies have a basis to re-evaluate the economic resources in detail, and have  measures for effective conservation and sustainable development of biodiversity resources in the area of Thua Thien Hue province.

According to Mr. Ho Vang, Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in mid-2016, the Provincial People's Committee issued the decision to restructure the agricultural sector towards the direction of developing safe, sustainable, and high-tech farming, with the focus on key crops such as plantation forests, organic rice, safe vegetables, fruit trees, etc. These plants have brought about high economic efficiency for local people.
