Hong Thai is a commune located near the Vietnam - Laos border, recognized as one of the most economically disadvantaged areas in A Luoi. Over 91% of the population here is of Ta Oi ethnic group, with livelihoods primarily center on agriculture and forestry.

According to the Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), on August 8, 2023, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has just sent a letter to this agency to inform about the opening of the United States (US) market for Vietnamese fresh coconuts.

This is the issue raised at the 2023 Students’ Scientific Research Conference, which took place at the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University on the afternoon of May 14. On March 29, The Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), the Australian Embassy and the Australian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City cooperated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Provincial People's Committee to organize a conference to promote Australian education, culture and cuisine in Hue City, within the Viet Nam - Australia: Unlocking Opportunities in Education and Agrifood roadshow series.
