The project of "Hue - The Capital of Ao Dai" has just been approved by the Provincial People's Committee. This project is in keeping with the province's resources and socio-economic development orientation. Also, it is believed to be able to exploit and promote the strengths of the culture and people of Hue as well as developing cultural industries.

Regarding the project’s specific goals, by 2025, Thua Thien Hue will establish a database with the images of Ao dai through the past periods; organize periodic Hue Community Ao Dai Week to make it a highlight of Hue festivals, especially the signature Hue Festival; establish a communication network about Hue Ao Dai; create and manage the brand “Hue - The Capital of Ao Dai”; to develop a tourism product related to the Ao Dai of Hue.

Furthermore, by 2030, a museum, exhibition center, and performances of Ao dai will be made available to serve the public. Besides, Ao Dai tailoring to serve tourists would also be introduced. Regarding the legal perspective, at least 1 policy is expected to support the development of Hue’s Ao Dai. A dossier of the ao dai tailoring and the custom of wearing Hue’s traditional ao dai will be finalized and submitted to UNESCO for consideration and registration as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

The total budget for implementing this project is estimated at over 535.5 billion VND, of which the socialization budget accounts for 524.4 billion VND, whereas the provincial budget contributes 11 billion VND.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism has just issued a decision to recognize “The Knowledge of Making and Wearing Hue Ao dai” of Thua Thien Hue Province as part of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List. This serves as an impetus for the Thua Thien Hue Garment Association to promote the introduction of the five-panel Ao dai into schools.
