Many places in Hue City were deeply flooded on the morning of 15/11

Heavy rain from the upstream Nam Dong forced irrigation and hydroelectric reservoirs to regulate water with a high flow rate, causing deep flooding in the downstream area of Hue City and other localities. Some streets like Truong Chinh, Ba Trieu, Le Quy Don were flooded up to 0.3-0.4m deep. Especially, some areas in the east of the city experienced rapid water rise overnight on the 14th and early morning of 15/11. With depths up to 1m in some places, residents did not have time to raise their belongings and move vehicles to higher ground to avoid the flood.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang, living in Ngoc Anh residential group, Phu Thuong ward (Hue City), said that she has never seen the flood rise so quickly overnight like this. The current water level is higher than the 2022 flood peak and nearly matches the 2020 flood. Since last night, her family had raised their belongings but had to continue raising them higher this morning and even had to bring motorcycles into the highest place in the house.

According to the Provincial Command of Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue, the forecast from 6 to 9 a.m. on November 15 for Thua Thien Hue province continues to predict very heavy rain with an amount of 60 - 100 mm, in some places over 150 mm. The forecast for the next 24 hours indicates a slow decrease in river floods. On the Huong River, the flood level remains high above alert level 3 this morning and noon, surpassing the 2022 flood peak. This afternoon and tonight, it will decrease to alert levels 2 - 3.
