At the ceremony, Venerable Thich Khe Chon, Standing Deputy Head of the Board of Administration of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, proclaimed the Message of the Head of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha. The Venerable Thich Khe Chon called on all monks, nuns and fellow Buddhists in Vietnam and abroad through practical actions to contribute their efforts to society to overcome difficulties, and challenges to continue to build a strong and developing Vietnam in all areas of social life.

This year, due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vesak celebration was not organized with the participation of large crowds. There was also no procession to welcome the Buddha, no flower floats, flower boats or art programs. Formal ceremonies were also limited to fewer than 20 people attending and were broadcast live so that Buddhists can watch them at home.
