Commercial sweet snails - A new direction for inefficient shrimp ponds
TTH.VN - Since the COVID-19 pandemic, shrimp farmers in the area have faced difficulties due to the shrinking consumption market, combined with frequent shrimp diseases, resulting in low productivity and precarious income. Therefore, some shrimp farming households in Dien Huong (Phong Dien) have converted to a new farming species, which is commercial sweet snail (ốc hương). It can both limit environmental pollution, and provide stable supply for restaurants and markets in the area.
Currently, there are 12 sweet snail farming households on an area of six hectares in Dien Huong, initially showing the efficiency. This model may be a suggestion for shrimp ponds facing difficulties in wastewater treatment and frequent diseases.
Thua Thien Hue Weekly would like to introduce to the readers some procedures and techniques in sweet snail farming, captured by Nguyen Khoa Huy, the photographer, during his trip to Dien Huong.
