In recent years, friendly relations between the two provinces have grown significantly, encouraging close, dependable, effective, and practical collaboration in all fields including politics, diplomacy, national security, culture, education, healthcare, and others. This relation has greatly aided in building the Vietnam-Laos border line of peace, stability, friendship, cooperation and comprehensive development.
Collaboration to increase the quality of border-crossing crime prevention and control, drug prevention and control, and the exchange of skills in crime prevention are also notable. Salavan Province continues to coordinate, support, and create appropriate conditions for Thua Thien Hue Province in its search for and collection of the remains of Vietnamese martyrs, voluntary soldiers, and specialists who perished in Salavan.
Cooperation in education and human resource training remains a top priority for both provinces’ high-level leaders, affirming it as one of the most effective areas of collaboration.
There are now 64 Salavan students studying in Thua Thien Hue Province. The province continues to create policies that emphasize care and make it easier for Salavan authorities and leaders to attend and receive medical treatment at Hue Central Hospital and Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. The Hue Central Hospital and the Salavan Department of Health have signed an agreement to collaborate on medical assessment and treatment.

At the meeting, Secretary Le Truong Luu, and the Secretary and Provincial Governor Daovong Phonekeo, shared the two provinces' recent achievements in socio-economic, security and defense, as well as Party building, with a focus on three programs and projects that Thua Thien Hue has supported and is currently assisting Salavan with.
The first project, with a budget of 14.9 billion VND, involves renovating the transportation link point at the major border gate of Hong Van - Co Tai and managing the cross-border route. The second ones, funded with 8 billion VND, is the construction of a Martyr's Worship house and the 192 base for the search and gathering of 192 soldier remains in Salavan provinces. Finally, the Salavan - Thua Thien Hue Friendship Cultural House construction project has a budget of 8 billion VND.
During the meeting, both sides affirmed their commitment to further elevating friendly and comprehensive cooperation to new heights. This approach aims to successfully achieve socio-economic development objectives and international integration at the localities, making a positive contribution to strengthening and enhancing the ever-growing and deepening special solidarity relationship between Vietnam and Laos.
