Affirming its position
In June 2024, a new milestone was set for Hue University when it was first included in the world university rankings of Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings 2025 (QS WUR). In 2025, 1,503 universities from 104 countries and territories around the world are included in QS WUR. Six institutions from Vietnam are ranked, a new one of which, Hue University, ranked 1,201-1,400.
Since 2024, QS WUR has made some adjustments to the ranking criteria, emphasizing three criteria, namely sustainability, employment outcomes and international research cooperation. Along with that, two other criteria are also mentioned, including the ratio of international lecturers participating in teaching and the ratio of international students. These two criteria show that universities create a culturally diverse teaching and learning environment. International diversity helps bring new perspectives, improving the quality of teaching and research. In addition, the ratio of international students reflects Hue University’s ability to attract global talent and provide a diverse learning environment.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Viet Minh Nhat, Director of the Institute of Testing and Quality Assurance of Education - Hue University, said that Hue University’s entry into the QS WUR rankings for the first time was a big step forward, reflecting the continuous efforts in improving the quality of education and research. This ranking not only enhances the prestige of Hue University, but also contributes to affirming the position of Hue University in particular, and Vietnamese higher education in general on the world map. This ranking will certainly help Hue University attract more international students and lecturers, strengthen international cooperation, and improve the quality of research and teaching in the coming time.
Up to now, Hue University has been fully listed in the top four university rankings in the world and Asia of the 2 rankings QS and THE (Times Higher Education). In 2024, in the World University Rankings 2024 by subject, THE also ranked four scientific fields of Hue University, including Clinical and Health, Engineering, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences. More recently, the Law faculty of the University of Law, Hue University entered the rankings in the Social Sciences and Business - Economics group of THE in 2024.

More recently, the Law Department of the University of Law, Hue University entered the rankings in the Social Sciences and Business - Economics group of THE in 2024.
Gradually stepping out into the world
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Anh Phuong, Director of Hue University, affirmed that the rankings were all based on specific quantitative factors, not qualitative. Organizations have independent and objective scoring methods, based on the results of training, recruitment of enterprises, scientific research results, international cooperation, etc.
Hue University has established cooperative relationships with more than 400 universities, research institutes and educational science organizations of more than 30 countries around the world and implemented 21 joint undergraduate and postgraduate training programs with foreign universities. There are 27 training programs in English. Many training programs partly in foreign languages have also been implemented, facilitating credit exchange for foreign students and improving the ability to exchange students and lecturers internationally.
Hue University is also an official member of 17 international university networks, training and research organizations; participates in most domestic research institute and university networks in diverse fields; has relationships with many international funding organizations, such as the World Bank, Asian Bank, Ford Foundation, East meets West (the US), Rockefeller Foundation, JICA, KOICA, Sida/SAREC, ICCO, Erasmus Mundus in Southeast Asia.

Many outstanding individuals and scientists of Hue University have received prestigious awards in the world. Notably, Dr. Tran Quang Hoa, Deputy Head of the Mathematics Department, University of Education, Hue University received the award from the French Academy of Sciences for “Efforts for bilateral cooperation in science between France and ASEAN countries.” In particular, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Quoc Huy, Rector of University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University was awarded the National Order of Merit by the French State and the Knighthood for his great contributions to the Francophone medical community.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Anh Phuong emphasized that Hue University, member universities, research institutes, faculties and branches needed to maintain and further improve quality in all fields; continue to have innovations and solutions to keep up with the development trends of the world higher education. Only then can we aim to put Hue University in the top 300 best universities in Asia and the top 1,000 universities in the world in the coming time.
